Question from this month's Postbag

Eva could you please help me – I have two questions for you.

Question 1.

I am going on holiday in six weeks time and I need to lose about 40 lbs.  Is it safe for me

to go on a crash diet?

Question 2.

Can you please recommend a good safe diet for me to use?

Thanks from Sally in London.

My Response To Sally

Hi Sally

Thank you for contacting me.

Here is my first answer:

Crash diets are a no no and usually involve almost starving yourself.

What Are The Don'ts of Dieting?

·      Don't miss meals

·      Don't cut down on your calorie intake to less than 1000 calories in a day

What Are The Do's of Dieting?

·      Do eat six meals a day

·      Do eat well balanced meals

·      Do cut down on your stodgy foods

·      Do eat foods that speed up your metabolism

What happens if you miss meals?

If you miss a meal your stomach will get the wrong message.  It will think,

'Hey!  I'm ready to eat but no food is coming.' So when you do eat, your stomach will remember that
you missed a meal earlier, and this is what it will think, 'Ok, here comes food, but maybe there is going to be a famine, I'd better store this food for future times.'

How does your stomach store food?  It stores it as fat. The result is you start putting on weight.

Why Is Cutting Down on Calories Bad for You?

We all need a certain amount of Calories in a day.  Calories = Energy.  You may think that as you are a couch potato you won't need  many Calories, but your body needs Calories just to keep things going.  Just breathing in and out, uses Calories.  Eating also involves giving your stomach some work to do, eg digesting your food.  So any activity means some Calories are being used.

How Can Eating Six Meals a Day Help You Lose Weight?

Eating six meals a day helps to speed up your Metabolism.  Therefore if your Metabolism is speeded up, you will be burning more Calories.

What Is A Well Balanced Diet?

A well balanced diet is .... a meal that provides the body with certain essential nutritional needs.

What Is A Nutritional Need?

The body needs a regular top up of:

·      Proteins

·      Fats

·      Carbohydrates

Proteins

Protein is from most dairy products eg Meat, Fish, Eggs, Cheese and some Fruit and Vegetables.

Fats

Why should you eat Fat? If on a Weight Loss diet, wouldn't eating more fat make you put on weight?

No because fat is also a source of energy.  There are two kinds of fat:

·      Good fat

·      Bad fat

For further info about Fats be sure to read my article :

'Weight Loss - You Need Good Fat'

www.weight-loss-4-you.com/page23.htm

Carbohydrates

These are the foods that most of us love. Sweet sticky cakes and puddings, bread, potatoes - need I go on?

What Are Stodgy Foods?

Stodgy foods are high in Carbohydrates.  They are the kind of foods that make you feel full but an hour later you're hungry again.

Which Foods Speed Up The Metabolism?

Most fruit and vegetables, especially green vegetables.  And foods high in Fibre.

For more about High Fibre Foods read my article –

'Weight Loss - Good Health and Fibre '

Answer Two.

I can highly recommend HERBALIFE.  I have been using HERBALIFE for 12+ years.  But you don't have to take my word for it.

See what others have to say.

I hope this has helped you Sally.

If I can be of any further assistance, please let me know.

Losing Weight is a Personal Decision.

If you want to lose weight, the decision to do something about it will be your decision and yours alone.

If somebody else is urging you to lose weight, unless you really want to do it, it won't work.

How Do You Go About Losing Weight?

First Decide How Much Weight You Need To Lose

Then Work Out How Long You
Will Need To Reach Your Target Weight if You Were To Lose An Average of 5 lbs per week.

Finally Decide On Which Diet You Will Be Using
